Youth Counselling

Youth Counselling

Counselling is a safe space for young people to express their thoughts, feelings, emotions, struggles, worries and the positive stuff to help explore who they are, what they want in life, unhook from things they are stuck on and how to lead a purposeful and meaningful life.

Meet our Counsellor, Leah

Hi, I am Leah the counsellor at WYT,

Coming to counselling can be hard as we might think nobody will understand me, not another adult telling me what to do or what if I get into trouble for talking to someone. All these thoughts are normal.

I am here to listen to what you have to say and help you figure out what is going on inside your brain so you can make sense of the internal chatter, the big feelings and find your voice.

When you first meet me, I will give you some information about how counselling works, your rights, talk about consent to participate and sign and I may ask a few questions about who you are and what is going on in your life; this information helps me know you a little bit better so I can support you.

After we first met, we will start to explore different ways we can help you be OK with what is happening in your life and move towards a purposeful and meaningful life that you want to live.

Sometimes, I might need to speak to the adults in your life, before I speak to anyone, I will talk to you about it.

Areas of interest:

Working from a response based practice framework with any person who has experienced violence and/or abuse to support them through their journey of healing

Working within an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy scope to support anyone who is struggling to find purpose and meaning in their life, have anxious feelings showing up and who might be stuck

Supporting young people to understand brain functions and self-regulation

Inspiring self-compassion and kindness
